Houston (MJP) –
Joined by Indian American Impact in backing Vice President Kamala Devi Harris for president, more than sixty-three South Asian American state and local officials from around the nation, five of whom were from Texas, joined the endorsement on Tuesday, July 30.
Many prominent figures have voiced their support for the current vice president, including Salman Bhojani, Dr. Suleman Lalani, and Judge KP George of Fort Bend County in Texas.
Bhojani happily endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, joining other DFW Democratic elected figures, as he said on his Instagram page. “From the moment she entered politics, Vice President Harris has been leading with a commonsense, forward-thinking vision, and she is in an ideal position to begin her tenure immediately!”

While Dr. Lalani refrained from commenting on Harris’ declared presidential candidacy, he did mark his attendance at last week’s Texas American Federation of Teachers (AFT) conference, where the vice president delivered the keynote address. The state representative from Texas praised Harris’s remarks regarding public school funding in Texas on his Facebook page.

With more than 66,000 members, AFT is a union that transcends the state. Members include retired people, support workers, and teachers from elementary school to community college. According to the Texas AFT website, the organization’s mission is to advocate on behalf of its members and the kids they educate.
Appellate Judge KP George is proud of Vice President Harris
No one should be surprised that George has endorsed Harris for 2024, four years after he voiced his joy and excitement when she became the first woman, African American, and Indian American to hold the post (in November 2020).
Not only did Indian American Impact back Harris, but so did Ash Hamirani, a trustee of Stafford MSD, and Zo Qadri, a member of the Austin city council.
An important turn in the presidential contest for 2024 has occurred with the endorsement of Vice President Harris by these South Asian American government representatives.
This demonstrates that she has the backing of a sizable and powerful group of people. A growing number of South Asian Americans are actively participating in politics, according to the report.
