At the Law Enforcement Torch Run last Thursday, which took place at multiple Texas Roadhouse locations, police from different agencies in the Lone Star State swapped their handcuffs for menus to raise money for a good cause.
These cops, in what appears to be an endearing annual tradition, worked as waiters to raise money for Special Olympics Texas, a nonprofit that helps people with intellectual impairments pursue their sporting goals.
The Lewisville Police Department said that the event was a team effort and that the officers involved were very pleased with their role.
A kind of generosity that gets lost in the whir of police sirens is captured by the sense of community that develops as a result of these kinds of events.

The Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is poised to advance its mission because of the ongoing dedication of these officers to go above and beyond the call of duty.
Programs that provide disabled athletes the chance to compete and succeed in sports rely heavily on these fundraising efforts.
