Shooter Dies by Suicide After Opening Fire at Dallas Walmart, Injuring 2

Dallas, Texas — A busy Wednesday afternoon turned violent outside a Walmart on Forest Lane after a man allegedly tracked down his romantic partner and opened fire, injuring her and a bystander before later taking his own life.

According to Dallas Police, the suspected gunman was found dead in his vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ending a chaotic incident that unfolded in one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors.

Suspect Allegedly Targeted His Romantic Partner

Police sources reported that the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation. The man allegedly followed his partner to the Walmart parking lot, where he confronted and shot both the woman and another female bystander.

Both victims were rushed to a local hospital, and Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed that their injuries were non-life-threatening and that they were stabilized shortly after arrival.

Witnesses described the scene as terrifying, noting that the attack occurred just after 3:20 p.m., when the parking lot was packed with shoppers and employees.

Witness Recounts Terrifying Moments of the Shooting

One witness, Tevar Watson, emphasized how close he was to the violence.

“I was parked right next to him,” Watson said. “I locked eyes with the man before he got out of his black sedan and shot one of the women.”

Watson explained that he immediately tried to process what was happening, watching the victim react to the first gunshot.

“I’m looking in the rearview and I could see her face,” he recalled. “She was frantic. And she started running.”

Watson and several Walmart employees quickly ran to help the injured woman. He described significant blood loss, but noted that she remained conscious and was able to speak.

He added that he retrieved the shopping basket the woman had abandoned while fleeing, saying it contained her phone and she was desperate to call her family.

Suspect Found Dead Inside Vehicle

Another witness, Don Nelson, said he saw the suspect quickly retreat to his vehicle after firing the initial shots.

“Next thing you know I saw the guy running to his car. I heard one final gunshot and…” Nelson said, trailing off as he described the moment officers realized the suspect had taken his own life.

An off-duty police officer located the man a short time later, deceased inside the same black sedan he exited before opening fire.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives review witness accounts and security footage from the parking lot.

Victims Expected to Recover

Watson said he felt relief after learning the two women were expected to survive their injuries.

“As long as she makes it, I think I’m gonna be OK,” he said, noting the emotional weight of witnessing such violence up close.

Police have not released updates on the victims’ conditions beyond confirming that neither woman suffered life-threatening injuries. Officials emphasized that the shooting was isolated to a domestic conflict and did not pose an ongoing threat to the public.

Community Shocked as Investigation Continues

Shoppers and employees described the incident as “surreal,” noting that the parking lot was crowded with families, workers finishing their shifts, and people picking up after-school essentials.

The Walmart temporarily restricted access to parts of the parking lot as officers investigated, although the store remained open. Dallas Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to contact detectives through the department’s tip line.

Such shootings tied to domestic disputes remain a troubling trend nationwide. According to data from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a significant percentage of gun-related injuries involving women stem from intimate partner conflicts—something community advocates stress needs urgent attention and expanded support services.
