HARRISBURG, Pa.
MITER Brands announced plans to lay off 225 workers at its PGT Innovations division in Venice, Fla.
According to a WARN layoff notice filed last week by NewSouth Window Solutions, a subsidiary of MITER Brands, the layoffs will commence Jan. 18, 2025.
PGT Innovations manufactures windows and doors. The company was acquired by MITER Brands earlier this year in a deal valued at $3.1 billion.
PGT Innovations’ Venice plant reportedly employed more than 2,000 people before the layoffs.
“At MITER Brands, we continuously strive to grow and adapt in an ever-changing market,” the company said in a statement. “Through our close monitoring of current economic conditions, we recently identified the need to reduce the number of team members working in our Venice, FL location to align with the forecasted demand in our core markets.
We believe that business is always personal, and for that reason, realigning our workforce is not something our team takes lightly.
Maryland Job Cuts: An Unexpected Company Eliminates 141 Positions
We have provided affected team members with the information to successfully move forward to the next step in their careers.”
While the job cuts are a tough blow for those affected, PGT Innovations’ leadership maintains that the company will continue to operate in the competitive window and door manufacturing sector. The company’s ability to weather the storm of rising costs and shifting consumer preferences will depend on its success in navigating these restructuring efforts and adapting to future market demands.
As PGT Innovations looks toward the future, it is clear that the impact of the job losses will resonate throughout the company, the workers, and the surrounding community. For now, the company has pledged to provide resources to help employees transition, offering severance packages, job placement assistance, and counseling services to mitigate the effects of the downsizing.
The news of the layoffs highlights the ongoing challenges faced by many manufacturers in the U.S., as they balance rising costs, supply chain disruptions, and changing market dynamics. While PGT Innovations has taken steps to stabilize its operations, the broader implications of the layoffs will continue to unfold in the coming months.
