Officer Hurt During Newark to Clifton Police Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle

A police pursuit that began in Newark culminated in Clifton, miles away, after a vehicle crashed through a fence and a police cruiser was found in the woods.

Police pursued the wanted suspects north on Route 21 just after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday; they were wanted for a prior shooting.

Their car, which was reported stolen from Belleville on August 18th, was wanted about a shooting in Paterson on August 19th.

The perpetrators sped off after crashing into the Kingsland Road parking lot through some shrubs and a fence.

Two were apprehended by law enforcement officials in a flash, while a third was located around one hour later concealed beneath a shrub.

Just before 7:30 a.m., John Del Giorno captured the arrest on camera using NewsCopter 7.

Those wanted for questioning were identified as 20-year-old Jordan Hernandez, 20-year-old Zanier Riley, and 19-year-old Malachi Gentry.

While on the run, a police vehicle out of Newark slammed into some trees.

At the scene, one officer received treatment for minor injuries.
