A tanker truck blew up on a major highway close to Giddings, Texas, on Sunday, leaving two people critically injured.
Nearly an hour east of Austin, on U.S. 290 east of Giddings, was where the explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies were on the scene on time to assist with the fire, rescue the seriously injured, and offer support and backup.
According to a Lee County EMS Facebook post, paramedics arrived swiftly, loaded two seriously injured patients, and transported them to an Austin hospital.

Texas Tanker Explosion
On Sunday, about an hour east of Austin, a tanker truck caught fire on a Texas highway. (EMS in Lee County)
The fire event was attended to by many agencies such as the Giddings Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Giddings, Lincoln, and South Lee County fire departments, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Fayette County EMS.
The explosion caused authorities to close off the route and divert traffic around the area.
