Kansas City, Kansas – Two drivers were seriously injured in a rear-end incident on I-70 near Highway 69, which killed a 78-year-old man from Kansas City.
At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, emergency personnel were summoned to the scene of a two-vehicle collision near westbound I-70 and Highway 69, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Authorities stated that upon arrival, they discovered 60-year-old Lori Wiggins of Kansas City, Kansas, had shifted her 2014 Jeep Cherokee onto the shoulder of the interstate’s westbound lanes. Also westbound in a 2007 Chrysler 300 was 29-year-old Kansas City resident Jesus Aguilar-Santos.
According to state troopers, aguilar-Chrysler Santos’s and Wiggins’s vehicles were involved in a collision. As a result of the collision, the Jeep went tumbling into the north ditch. Also careened into the north ditch was the Chrysler.
Aguilar-Santos and Wiggins were transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center by emergency personnel due to injuries that could have life-threatening consequences. When the accident occurred, Aguilar-Santos was not fastened to his seatbelt.

According to first responders, Darrell Richardson, 78, of Kansas City, who was riding shotgun with Wiggins, was declared dead at the site. Whether Richardson or Wiggins had fastened their seatbelts is yet unanswered.
