Pleasanton — The woman’s narrative has reportedly fallen apart during the last year, according to the police, after she claimed that home invasion robbers killed her lover, a 32-year-old man, in their living room while momentarily holding her against her will.
Kennedy Stith, 27, was detained on Thursday by homicide investigators from the Pleasanton Police Department. She is accused of stabbing her lover to death last year. Although Stith is now not facing any charges, he does have a temporary court date scheduled on Monday. According to documents, the police will likely submit a formal request for charges to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office shortly.
On May 1, 2023, Edevion White, a 32-year-old resident of his Owens Drive condominium, was fatally stabbed in his living room. Investigators received indications from Stith’s friends and relatives after his death that White had videotaped him being violent and threatening. According to officials, White’s close associates informed them that he had a premonition telling them to consider Stith first in the event of his unexplained death.
On the day of the murder, Stith dialed 911, but as her account developed, authorities began to see red flags. She allegedly told dispatchers that a “domestic dispute” was going on at the residence while they were on the phone. According to the police, she had a different account of what happened by the time they reached the gruesome scene.

She supposedly informed the police that a robber and another intruder had stormed her home, brandishing weapons. While one man attacked Stith in another room of the house and stabbed him once in the chest, the other allegedly held her at gunpoint in the kitchen. She supposedly asserted that the burglars subsequently made off with the apartment.
Her story did not match what they found at the crime scene, according to the police. One reason is that the location of White’s body—next to the front door—made it difficult for both the police and any would-be burglars to access or exit the house. Despite claims that the altercation took place in the living room, bloodstains of White were discovered throughout the flat.
A body was retrieved from the sea close to the Bay Bridge exit.
When Stith and her mother, who was at the couple’s house that day, did not show up for their scheduled police interview, investigators’ suspicions were further heightened. According to the police, Stith did not even bother to follow up with an inquiry after giving her first testimony on the day of the murder.
Those close to White who spoke out about their relationship said that the couple fought often over money, especially the profits from selling hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana. According to the authorities, Stith allegedly threatened to murder White while brandishing a knife during one of the arguments.
Last month, while purportedly investigating new leads, police issued a public appeal for information on the murder.
Stith is still in jail on a no-bail hold after his arrest in Oakland on Thursday. In a press release issued on Friday morning, the arrest was announced by the police.
The city of Pleasanton is extending its deepest sympathies to Edevion White’s loved ones and friends, and they are being supported by the city throughout this difficult time, according to the news release.
