The opening of a new high school in East Harlem, which can accommodate over 600 students, was celebrated by a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Since this is the first brand-new East Harlem high school in more than 60 years, some in the community see it as a fresh start.
Students are not required to pay anything to attend the public charter school because it is free of charge. Even though 90% of the current student body hails from East Harlem, the school is still accepting new pupils.
With an NBA-sized gym and state-of-the-art classrooms, the new 70,000-square-foot facility is enormous.
The East Harlem Tutorial Program spearheaded a historic $125 million effort, which is responsible for all the developments.
