WEST VALLEY CITY —

A California man is being held at the Salt Lake County Jail without bond after he is said to have abducted his girlfriend over the weekend.

Jhony Efrain Sanchez Macha, 27, was taken into custody on Saturday in connection with six counts of possessing forgeries and a felony investigation of kidnapping.

West Valley City Police claim that throughout their time together in California, Sanchez Macha and the 21-year-old lady had a love relationship.

She currently resides in Utah.

According to the victim’s account, “the suspect came to Utah and sort of deceived her into getting into his vehicle,” according to West Valley City Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

According to the documents, Sanchez Macha did not stop to let the woman go, but she was able to email pictures of her whereabouts while driving and make touch with her family.

“The woman managed to contact her family and inform them that she was being forcibly removed to California. We began the process of seeking her as soon as the family contacted us, Vainuku said.

The Utah Highway Patrol saw Sanchez Macha’s vehicle close to I-15 and the Timpanogos Highway in Lehi. West Valley City Police were then given the case.

“When our detectives got there, they were able to recover some evidence that indicated he did intend to take her back across state lines,” Vainuku stated.

Luckily, according to the police, the woman was unharmed.

“We’re grateful that she’s able to contact her family,” Vainuku said,” and they were able to recognize the severity of the situation to get in touch with police immediately.”

According to a police booking affidavit, officers discovered three Social Security cards and three permanent residency cards in Sanchez Macha’s possession. Investigators from Homeland Security discovered they were fraudulent. Additionally, investigators discovered that Sanchez Macha was in the country on a visa that had expired.

According to the affidavit, Sanchez Macha admitted to the police that he could not survive without his lover and that, should he be freed, he would probably kidnap her once more.
