Multi-Agency Operation Leads to Arrest of Genesee County Man with Illegal Machine Guns

MJP – An extensive cache of firearm components, including machine guns, was discovered across various premises during a raid, leading to federal charges against a man from Bergen.

NY (BUFFALO) – A multi-agency investigation led to the arrest and subsequent charging of Peter Celentano, a resident of Bergen, NY, with illegal possession of machine guns, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross’s announcement today. If found guilty, Celentano faces a possible $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison according to the criminal complaint.

The home of Celentano on Rochester Street in Bergen was searched on September 29, 2024, as a result of a combined operation by the New York State Police, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, and the ATF.

Investigators uncovered a variety of items during their investigation, including two 3D-printed pistol frames, various weapon parts, equipment for reloading ammunition, and tools used for manufacturing firearms, such as a drill press, an AR 80% type jig, and other accessories.

More firearm-related goods, including several AR-style lower receivers and 3D-printed handguns, were discovered as authorities expanded their investigation to more locations linked to Celentano in Medina and Lyndonville, NY. Based on their unlawful “third pin hole,” investigators determined that 59 of the AR-style receivers were machine guns as per federal law.

A dive crew carried out an underwater search beneath the Beals Road bridge in the Erie Canal on October 9, 2024, adding further intensity to the probe. An unmarked pistol, ten AR-style receivers, and other gun parts were recovered from a submerged cardboard box there.

Joint efforts between the New York State Police (Maj. Miklos Szoczei II), the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff William A. Sheron Jr.), and the ATF (Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller, New York Field Division) were instrumental in conducting the investigation.

In federal court, Celentano is currently facing charges. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty; the charges are only allegations, as with all criminal complaints.
