A North Port resident has been convicted of creating and possessing explicit material involving minors.
Raul Colon-Ocasio, 32, has been charged by the United States Attorney’s Office for producing and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
In September 2022, a mother made a distressing call to the police, reporting that her child was missing. Evidence presented during the trial shed light on this alarming incident.
According to the release, during the search for the child, authorities discovered social media conversations of a sexual nature between the two individuals.
A minor has been located and safely returned home with the assistance of the police.
In October 2022, the FBI assumed control of the child’s social media and initiated communication with Colon-Ocasio as per NBC2.com
They had arranged to meet, but to his surprise, law enforcement officers were waiting for him instead.
A statement was released indicating that his cellphone was stolen, and it was later discovered that it contained videos of two minors involved in explicit activities, which he had saved.
The potential consequences he may face are severe, with a maximum penalty of up to 70 years in federal prison. The date for his sentencing hearing has been set for July 19.
