Police say the head of a Brooklyn street gang was found guilty Thursday of killing a government witness during a violent turf war in the East New York projects.
Feds say that Maliek Miller, the 30-year-old boss of the Ninedee Gang out of the Louis H. Pink Houses, ordered and helped plan the killing of 33-year-old Shatavia Walls in July 2020 after she testified against one of Miller’s employees who shot her in 2017.
For Miller’s death, the feds charged her with more than six crimes, such as racketeering, plot to commit murder in aid of racketeering, murder in aid of racketeering, and drug and weapons crimes.
A statement from the US Attorney’s Office says that after a four-week trial in federal court in Brooklyn, a jury found him guilty on all counts.
He will have to spend the rest of his life in jail as reported by The Post.
In a statement, US Attorney Breon Peace said, “Today’s verdict is momentous because it holds Miller accountable for planning a cowardly plot to kill a woman who bravely stood up to his Ninedee Gang. It also upholds the rule of law for the residents of the Pink Houses who just want to go about their lives and raise their children without being plagued by violence and danger from ruthless criminals like the defendant.”
“The verdict means that Miller will spend the rest of his life in prison. I hope this brings some comfort to Shatavia Walls’ family.”
The Ninedee Gang carefully planned and carried out Walls’ murder on the night of July 7, 2020. This happened just three days after Walls spoke out against the gangbangers for setting off illegal fireworks in the Linden Boulevard housing complex.
Police say that Miller called Walls a “snitch” and fired his gun into the air during the fight. Soon after, Miller and other Ninedee members started making plans to kill her.
Walls told a federal judge in Brooklyn in 2019 that two years earlier, a member of the Loopy Gang, which is another housing complex crew with close ties to the Ninedees, had shot her. This showed that the group already didn’t like Walls.
Gangbangers put up flyers all over the building that said “Shatavia Been a Rat And She Still Ratting.” This put a lot of pressure on her.
Three days after the fight on July 4, gang member Quintin Green (23), and Ninedee member Joe Santana (20), set their trap, according to court papers.
Over the course of the afternoon and early evening of July 7, the two waited at the Pink Houses for a chance to clip the woman.
In the complex, Walls finally left a building around 9:25 p.m., which is when Green walked up and began shooting, according to the feds.
Prosecutors say Green wasn’t a good shot because the bullet he fired hit someone else instead of the person he was trying to kill.
Green went after Walls when he took off and kept shooting the whole time. In a last-ditch effort, the woman who was going to die ran straight toward Santana, who was a child at the time. The authorities say he also fired a gun.

Green finally caught up to Walls and shot her dead behind a building on Linden Boulevard.
Then, 27-year-old Ninedee member Shakur Bey set the shooters’ clothes on fire by throwing them down a trash chute, according to the US Attorney’s Office.
Kevin Wint, 30, a member of the gang, rented a hotel room in Queens near John F. Kennedy Airport so the killers could hide. Walls lived for ten days before she finally passed away.
As of now, Green, Santana, and Bey have all pleaded guilty to murder charges and are waiting to be sentenced.
The feds say Wint, who pleaded guilty in March 2023, has already been sent to jail for more than nine years for his part.
