Young boy passes after multi-year cancer battle

A young boy who bravely battled cancer has passed away.

Brock Gordon Leon Meader passed away Wednesday, July 13 at Motts Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor surrounded by family and his favorite nurses. He was 10.

Brock, who lived in Stockbridge, previously lived in Howell for 8 years and attended Howell Public Schools.

It was just last June that Brock “rang the bell” to end a three-and-a-half year treatment journey with leukemia. However, that celebration was short-lived though as just a few weeks later, he was diagnosed with MDS – a rare cancer of the blood.

According to his obituary, “Brock was an old soul who will be remembered for his stunning blue eyes, infectious smile and laugh, no-nonsense attitude, and his hatred of anyone touching him or his blankets. He always put others before himself, and even through his cancer journey he was always doing something to benefit others. From food drives to art supply and video game fundraisers for the other kids on the 7th Floor at Motts Children’s Hospital. He was a little philanthropist at heart.”

Brock is survived by his parents: Brian & Christa Meader, who say their son was joined by his beloved dog Diesel, who died just hours before Brock, and was “waiting for him at the gates of the Rainbow Bridge.”

Brock’s family will receive friends on Saturday July 23, 2022, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Sunday, July 24, 2022, from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral service 3:00 PM at the Watkins Brothers Funeral Home MacDonald Chapel located at 315 N. Michigan Avenue, Howell, Michigan 48843. Friends and family please come in your favorite fishing/hunting or Team Brock t-shirt and jeans.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been created to assist the family with medical and other expenses.
