Biloxi, Mississippi — Authorities in southern Mississippi are investigating a disturbing food tampering case after razor blades were discovered hidden inside loaves of bread at multiple Walmart locations in Biloxi, prompting an arrest and safety warnings for shoppers.
Police say a 33-year-old Texas woman was taken into custody after customers reported finding sharp objects inside packaged bread sold at two Walmart stores in the coastal city.
Customers alert employees to dangerous discovery
According to the Biloxi Police Department, officers were called to a Walmart Supercenter and a Walmart Neighborhood Market on December 15 after store employees were notified of possible tampering.
Investigators say the incident first came to light when a customer reported finding a razor blade embedded inside a loaf of bread. Following that report, employees began inspecting other bread products on the shelves.
That inspection revealed multiple loaves had been tampered with, police said.
Authorities confirmed that the blades had been deliberately placed inside the bread packaging.
Suspect identified through surveillance footage
Police identified the suspect as Camille Benson, 33, who officials say is a Texas resident. Surveillance video from the stores reportedly showed Benson entering the locations where the tampered products were later found.
She was arrested on December 17 and charged with attempted mayhem, a felony offense under Mississippi law.
Officials said the Walmart stores involved are located roughly 370 miles south of Memphis, and at this time, investigators do not believe other Walmart locations were targeted.
Walmart removes products, issues statement
Walmart confirmed it acted quickly after being alerted to the situation, removing potentially affected products from store shelves.
In a statement provided to media, the retailer said:
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. We have removed and thoroughly inspected all potentially affected products at impacted stores in Biloxi. We appreciate law enforcement for their swift action and will continue cooperating with them as they investigate.”
Guidance issued for customers
Authorities and Walmart are urging shoppers who recently purchased bread from Walmart stores in the Biloxi area to inspect their products carefully.
Customers who believe they may have purchased a tampered item are advised to dispose of the product immediately and return to their local Walmart for a full refund.

Suspect remains in custody
Court records show Benson’s bond has been set at $100,000. She was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where she remains held as of the latest update.
Investigators have not released a possible motive, and the case remains under active investigation.
Authorities emphasized that incidents involving food tampering are taken seriously due to the potential risk to public safety, and they credited store employees and customers for quickly reporting the issue.
