Roundabout construction is set to begin August 8 in Green Oak Township, closing down an intersection for several months.
The Livingston County Road Commission says installation of the roundabout at the intersection of Rickett and Winans Lake roads, near the Legacy Center Sports Complex, was originally scheduled to take place in 2023, but was moved up a year so that it could be completed before the Michigan Department of Transportation installed the next phase of the US-23 Flex Route project.
The closure is expected to last through mid-November. A posted detour route will include Whitmore Lake Road, Hamburg Road and Maltby Road. However, current work on Whitmore Lake Road will complicate the issue for drivers.
Plans to place the roundabout have been underway for several years as the traffic flow has increased, overwhelming the current configuration in which Rickett Road has a stop sign while traffic on Winans Lake Road doesn’t stop.
Battle Creek-based Hoffman Bros, Inc., had the winning bid for the work, at just over $1,650,000, which was 1.3% under the engineer’s total bid estimate.
The project cost will be evenly split between Green Oak Township and the road commission.
