Roundabout construction in Green Oak Township that closed down an intersection for several months has been completed.
The Livingston County Road Commission began installation in early August of the roundabout at the intersection of Rickett and Winans Lake roads, near the Legacy Center Sports Complex.
As of Friday, county officials say the work is done and the roadway reopened. It was originally scheduled to take place in 2023, but was moved up a year so that it could be completed before the Michigan Department of Transportation installed the next phase of the US-23 Flex Route project.
Plans to place the roundabout have been underway for several years as the traffic flow has increased, overwhelming the old configuration in which Rickett Road had a stop sign while traffic on Winans Lake Road didn’t stop.
Battle Creek-based Hoffman Bros, Inc., had the winning bid for the work, at just over $1,650,000, which was 1.3% under the engineer’s total bid estimate.
The project cost was evenly split between Green Oak Township and the road commission.
