A water main break Thursday in the City of Brighton has forced a Boil Water Advisory to be issued for all City of Brighton water customers.
According to a notice on the city’s website, the precautionary actions are being taken due to the loss of water pressure in the water distribution system caused by a water main break early Thursday involving a fifty year old large 12 inch cast pipe that broke seven feet below the surface on Washington near 3rd Street.
Officials say crews completed work late Thursday to get pressure restored. However, even after the break is repaired, the boil water advisory will still be in effect until at least 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.
Meanwhile, water staff will be taking other remedial actions such as flushing and collecting bacteriological samples from around the system. The samples will be collected to determine that the water quality meets the state drinking water standards.
The water main break also forced the closure of Brighton High School, The Bridge Alternative High School and Tot Spot. However, all other BAS schools were open Thursday.
