Upgraded STEAR Database Brings New Features to Help Texans During Disasters!

The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) database has received significant updates aimed at improving disaster preparedness and response.

This database, managed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), is a free and voluntary registry designed to help emergency planners and responders identify and assist people with specific needs during emergencies.

TDEM Chief Nim Kidd explained the importance of these upgrades, stating, “By modernizing the STEAR database, we are giving local communities additional tools to identify and assist individuals with specific needs more efficiently and effectively.”

Texans with medical, access, or functional needs are encouraged to register to ensure their requirements are known to local responders during disasters.

The updated STEAR database introduces several key features to improve its usability and effectiveness:

  • New URL: Makes accessing the database more convenient.
  • Enhanced Design: Simplifies navigation and data management for users.
  • Improved Functionality: Streamlines operations at the local level to help responders act faster.
  • GIS Capabilities: Adds visualization tools for better geographic insights.
  • Data Validation: Ensures accurate and current contact information for all registered users.
  • Better Data Quality: Enhances the consistency of information across the platform.

These changes are expected to make the registry more effective in providing crucial information to emergency planners, helping them respond quickly and appropriately during disasters.

Texans who may need extra assistance during emergencies can register online or call 211 for support.

The improvements in STEAR reflect Texas’ commitment to keeping its communities safe and prepared, especially for those who may need additional help when disaster strikes.
