There have been 100 layoffs at an unexpected company in Maryland, according to new WARN data.
One of SpartanNash’s heritage distributions in Prince George’s County, which it bought over ten years ago in a $1.3 billion deal, will be shuttered. The company is based in Michigan.
Now, as of September 30, the Grand Rapids-based company, which has a retail and wholesale arm, intends to close its Landover plant.
Their notification to the Maryland Department of Labor on worker adjustments and retraining states that 141 individuals will be affected by the layoffs.
A corporate spokeswoman stated, “As part of our continuous improvement, we regularly evaluate our supply chain network to identify ways to operate more efficiently and effectively.”

Based on what the representative said, the company is shifting the workload from Landover to its other distribution sites along the East Coast.
