Unexpected Closure Hits Bookstore Chain with 120 Locations

MJP –

Customers get the chance to save 50% on merchandise after an unforeseen closure at a bookstore with 120 outlets. After 20 years in business, a Barnes & Noble competitor is shutting down one of its popular stores.

Liquidation sales with discounts of up to 50% will only be available for a short time. In an interview with local ABC affiliate WFAA, the Cedar Hill, Texas Half Price Books store—which is situated approximately 17 miles southwest of Dallas—confirmed the shutdown news.

The main reasons for the store’s closure, according to spokesperson Emily Bruce, are financial challenges and falling client visitation.

“Estemed customers have made it clear that keeping the Cedar Hill store open is no longer financially feasible, so we regret to inform you that we will not be able to remain,” she said.

Up until the store closes on September 29, customers can take advantage of discounts.

At least 40 of Half Price Books’ 120 stores are located in Texas alone, out of a total of nineteen states.

Another Texas establishment closed its doors earlier this year after 30 years in operation; the Cedar Hill site follows in those footsteps.

Some shoppers claimed to have scored amazing prices during the clearance, with one person saying they paid $27.30 for books worth $273.

If you’re looking for reasonably priced books, you may still find Half Price Books in Arlington and Mansfield.

Another Cincinnati, Ohio, location also closed in July as a result of landlord-tenant contract talks.

Ohio is still home to twelve Half Price Books stores.

There has been a spate of closures this summer at other independent bookshops that compete with Barnes & Noble and similar giants.

The Idaho Statesman reports that a Caldwell, Idaho, Rediscovered Books store has shut down following four years of financial troubles.

After four years, this location has not been able to stand on its own,” the store wrote in a June Facebook post, expressing its grief about the closure.

We have done all in our power to overcome the numerous obstacles that have been beyond our control.

“We have carefully considered all of our options, and we have determined that closing this Caldwell location is the best one,” the statement added.

Plus, other stores in 2024 and a pivotal one in California were shuttered by Barnes & Noble earlier this spring.

At the same time, Tattered Cover closed three stores and secretly filed for bankruptcy in 2023.
