Training burn set for Monday in Putnam Township

Residents in Putnam Township are being alerted to a training fire scheduled next week.

According to a statement from the Putnam Township Fire Department, they will be conducting a training burn at 2708 Tiplady Road between Dexter Townhall Road and Silver Hill Road on Monday, August 22, starting around 6:30 p.m..

Expected to last 2 to 3 hours, a large column of smoke may be seen around the area, but residents are being assured that fire officials have spent “plenty” of time to ensure the safety and security of not only the staff on hand to assist with this burn, but the area involved as well as the community.

Tiplady Road will be closed to traffic between Dexter Townhall Road and Silver Hill Road, only allowing local traffic/homeowners access during the time of the fire department activities. However, it will be reopened by the end of the night.

As there will be several fire apparatus moving around the area, residents are advised to avoid the area during this time if possible.

Anyone with questions or who would like further information, is asked to contact the department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 734-878-6788.
