Early on Thursday morning, a 21-year-old man was shot and murdered in Northeast Washington, D.C., according to his mother, after visiting relatives and friends in the Deanwood area.

Victim number one was Marcellus Jackson.

He was the youngest son of Denise Wilson. She expressed her disbelief to News 4.

“As I stand up, I realize they didn’t say that. It feels as though you’re dreaming,” she remarked.

Just after three in the morning, police responded to a shooting in the 4400 block of Hunt Place NE. At the scene, Jackson was pronounced deceased.

His mother questioned, “Who would take my baby, and for what?” “People don’t consider that these could be someone’s brother, cousin, or children.”

Wilson stated that her kid was shot and killed in an area where she and her family had left. She said there had been multiple gunshots at their house.

Wilson said her son was looking for more long-term employment after graduating high school in 2021.

According to her, Jackson was among the numerous individuals injured when a car crashed into a crowd during the 2007 Unifest street carnival in Anacostia.

According to a police report on Friday, Antonio Johnson, 32, who does not have a known residence, was taken into custody and accused of second-degree murder with a weapon. No details regarding a potential motivation were disclosed.

Wilson made Mayor Muriel Bowser listen to parents in D.C. when they spoke out against crime.

“This is my child,” she declared.

Police are asking anyone with possibly pertinent information to get in touch with them.
