The son of Buc-ee’s co-founder has been charged with 21 counts of invasive video recording.
Mitchell Wasek, 28, is the son of a co-founder of the Texas-based gas station chain Buc-ee’s. Last month, a Travis County grand jury returned six different indictments charging him with 21 counts of invasive visual recording.
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office says the charges are against Wasek for secretly recording 13 different people over the course of two years.
José Garza, the district attorney for Travis County, said, “The job of giving all the facts and evidence to a grand jury is something that we take very seriously.” “In this case, a group of independent Travis County residents looked at the evidence and the law and decided that Mr. Wasek’s actions were wrong.”
Court records that CBS Austin got in October of last year say that the investigation began in May 2023, when guests at Wasek’s family lake house found a secret camera. The house is in Spicewood and is on Lake Travis.
The camera reportedly had a memory card with dozens of videos of people in bedrooms and bathrooms undressing in different ways.
The 167th Judicial Court for Travis County will handle Wasek’s case.
