Suspects sought in Highland Township hardware store robbery

Suspects are still being sought in a brazen daylight robbery of a family-owned hardware store in Highland Township last week.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says two men stole $4,000 worth of specialty merchandise last Wednesday from Peter’s True Value Hardware near Milford.

According to owner Peter Grebeck, two men wearing hoodies and masks walked into his store prompting him to leave the office and get a closer look.

“Right after I met them, they happened to grab two pieces of concrete equipment and when I confronted them, they immediately said they were going to pay for them and then they ran out front,” Grebeck told WXYZ.

A video posted on Facebook shows them heading toward a silver getaway car in the back of the parking lot with Grebeck in pursuit. He then got in his truck and nearly hit the suspect’s car as they were driving off.

The two cement saws are estimated to be worth almost $4,000.

Grebeck said that unfortunately that isn’t enough to merit making an insurance claim, so it will be a write off for him. However, he says police believe the thieves may be connected to crimes in other counties.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at 248-858-4951.
