Now, as customers get ready for another supermarket takeover, a food store unexpectedly closes, resulting in up to 50% off sales.
In Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans, Winn Dixie is closing its store and being taken over.
According to The US Sun, Aldi purchased all Winn-Dixie and other Southeastern Grocers Inc. stores, including Harveys Supermarkets, in August, which is why the closure is taking place.
An employee at the business verified that July 7 is the last day to shop.
Customers might benefit from discounts of up to 50% off in the interim, according to reports.
After repairs, an Aldi will take the place of the Winn Dixie in Metairie.
Meredith Hurley, senior director of communications and community at Southeastern Grocers, said in a statement to NOLA, “As we work through this transition period, conversion plans are still being finalized and we will share more information as they become available.”
It will be Louisiana’s 16th Aldi supermarket when it opens.
Aldi is assuming control of the South and is in the process of opening 800 additional outlets.
About 50 sites would start the conversion process in the second half of 2024, according to statements made by shop managers in March.
In 2025, most of these locations will reopen as Aldi.
That a new store is taking the place of their Winn Dixie, nevertheless, has not pleased everyone.
One person posted on a neighborhood Facebook group, “I tried Aldi when they first opened on Vets and I wasn’t impressed.”

“There were no bags, the shopping cart operated with a quarter, and the prices were comparable to those of other stores.”
I don’t see many reasons to go there.
“I’m not fond of Aldi. Another added, “It’s boring.”
“Aldi does not have as many selections as Winn Dixie,” commented a third. I think Winn Dixie offers better prices as well.
Some did, meanwhile, express a similar joy at the Aldi’s entrance.
Someone wrote, “This is AMAZING NEWS.”
“Aldi offers a diverse range of products at a significantly lower price.”
I pay $50 for the same items at Aldi and receive $100 worth of goods from Winn Dixie. Another said, “I adore Aldi.”
