Southwest Airlines held its Investor Day in Dallas, where it unveiled a major three-year plan to improve the customer experience and make the company more profitable.

Southwest has stated that it will offer assigned seating starting in 2025. This is to please the 80% of Southwest customers who want this service.
The airline will also offer premium seats with extra legroom in a third of its seats to appeal to both business and leisure tourists.

Southwest will also change how people board, but it will keep its famous “bags fly free” policy, which is still a big part of what sets it apart from other airlines.
Southwest’s CEO, Bob Jordan, said that these changes are part of a bigger plan to improve the company’s finances and give shareholders long-term value.
In 2026, the airline will start a new era with the first trips that have assigned seating.
