South Lyon Police Department to get new chief

South Lyon will be getting a new top cop next month.

After nearly four years in the position, Police Chief Chris Sovik will be stepping down on November 30th with Lieutenant Doug Baaki taking his place. Baaki has spent his entire career with the department, starting as a part-time officer straight out of the police academy in 1990.

Meanwhile, the 55-year-old Sovik, who lives in Howell, is leaving for after 31 years and says he does so with great memories.

“It has been a win-win for both parties, affording me to have a life and raise three kids while giving the city 31 years of solid law enforcement,” he told HometownLife.com. “I have no regrets. I am sad to leave the people I work with, but it’s a win-win for my family and the City of South Lyon.”
