South Lyon City Council has approved a social district ordinance.
On Monday, the Council voted to establish a social district, allowing alcoholic beverages to be purchased and consumed outside in an area that extends down Lafayette Street from the South Lyon Hotel to McHattie Street, as well as on Lake Street from Lafayette to Wells Street.
Six establishments are eligible to apply to be included in the social district; The Corner Social, Dua Vino, Lake Street Tavern, South Lyon Hotel, Third Monk Brewing Co. and Twisted Cork Winery.
Their customers will be allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages in special containers to be taken off premises and consumed within the district boundaries between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily.
South Lyon Police would enforce the ordinance and anyone caught drinking outside the district could be ticketed.
