The Supplemental Security Income program only issues 12 payments per year, that is one per month. However, it is frequent that an SSI check or deposit needs to be sent a day or two in advance.
This usually happens because Social Security only delivers payments on business days. Not to mention the fact that banks and other financial institutions are not open on the weekend or on holidays.
As you may have guessed, the change for the January payment will be made to December 31, 2024. So, your new payment will include the 2025 COLA increase. Thus, you will get 2.5 dollars extra for each 100 dollars you get from the SSI program.
Who qualifies for the SSI payment on December 31?
If you have not filed and received SSA’s approval, you are not eligible. But to qualify you must have a low income, little to no resources and meet one of the following requirements too:
- either have a qualifying disability
- or be blind
- or be at least 65 years old
Those American citizens who meet all these requirements will receive their January payment for the SSI program on December 31, 2024. There will be no other paydays like in Social Security retirement or SSDI payments.

The amount of money you get will depend on your earnings, benefits, or savings. The lower your income and resources are, the more money you will get from the Supplemental Security Income program.
For example, if you get no reductions, you can get up to $484 if you are an essential person, up from $472. Individuals on SSI can get up to $967, up from 943. But what about eligible married couples?
An eligible married couple can receive up to $1,450, up from 1,415. For your information, average payments are much lower. The average for all recipients is about $697. But those aged 65 or older get about $576.
