As the August primary approaches, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin (D-Lansing) has a massive fundraising advantage over her expected opponent in the November general election.

According to campaign finance documents for the second quarter of the year, Slotkin reported raising more than $1.5 million from April through the end of June, leaving her with more than $6.5 million in cash on hand.
Her anticipated opponent, Sen. Tom Barrett (R-Charlotte) raised $621,557, but ends the quarter with just $439,049 on hand.
Barrett has raised just under $1.4 million since the start of the election cycle while Slotkin has garnered nearly five times that amount at just over $6.8 million.

Both candidates are vying to win the newly-drawn 7th Congressional District, which is centered around Lansing, and includes all of Livingston County.
The district is rated as a “Democratic Toss Up” by The Cook Political Report.
