Slotkin announces she and husband are divorcing

U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Lansing) announced Saturday that she and he husband, Dave Moore, are divorcing.

Slotkin, who was elected to a third term in Congress last November, told The Detroit Free Press that the parting was painful, but amicable

“After careful consideration, we are saddened to announce that we are divorcing after 12 years of marriage,” Slotkin and Moore said in a joint statement to the paper. “We’ve reached this decision together after much reflection and we do it on agreeable terms. We appreciate everyone’s respect for our privacy on this matter during this time.”

The 46-year-old Slotkin, a former intelligence officer with the CIA and then the Pentagon, met Moore while both were serving in Iraq in 2009. Moore was a former Apache helicopter pilot who was part of a U.S. team negotiating with the Iraqis, while she was serving her third tour in Iraq. They married in 2011.

Slotkin’s announcement follows intense speculation that she will run to replace Debbie Stabenow as a U.S. Senator when Stabenow finishes her current term in 2024.
