A bus driver from New Jersey Transit is in jail after a disturbing incident that was filmed showing him brutally assaulting a passenger and placing him in a chokehold.

A bus driver named Toron Walker was taken into custody after a confrontation that broke out aboard a busy bus in Newark on Friday afternoon, as reported by ‘RLS Media.’

According to the video, Walker violently threw the passenger onto the bus aisle after grabbing his neck and dragging him down onto a seat.

According to the “New York Post,” Walker—who was identified—was heard instructing bus passengers to go to the rear of the vehicle just before the altercation started.

Additionally, the driver allegedly asks, “What […] is wrong with you?” and strikes the passenger many times in the head. “Would you like to spit?”

Angry bystanders pleaded with Walker to stop, and he allegedly put the man in a chokehold.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, when police arrived at the incident on Court Street near Broad Street, they found Walker still assaulting the passenger.

Aggravated assault was the charge against Walker, who was taken into custody. There were no major injuries to the passenger, who was also taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault, according to the police.

A statement was issued by NJ Transit regarding the incident.

“We are unable to comment on any specific details at this time,” the NJ Transit statement read, as reported by ‘Black Enterprise.’ The issue is currently under investigation. “We don’t condone any form of assault aboard any of our vehicles or within our facilities.”

“We can confirm that our driver was assaulted before the altercation,” extended the spokeswoman. “We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that assaulting a transit employee is a serious offense and can result in a fine, jail time, and/or a ban from riding the transit system.”
