Savannah spoke about Hoda’s exit from Today to US Weekly on October 10 at the World Mental Health Day Gala.

According to Guthrie, she said her and Hoda are dear friends and they have many similarities. She added that they are pretty much in the same stage of life, alluding to her show tenure coming to an end.

Viewers of the show were surprised to hear the unexpected news from Hoda that she had the desire to “try something new” after almost 20 years on ‘Today’ show.

Savannah also said that she admired Hoda for stepping into an uncertain future.

Guthrie heard about Kotb’s exit just days before her announcement

However, Savannah heard the news just a few days before Hoda made it public.

Savannah recalled to US Weekly that it was the Monday right before the public found out and Hoda called her because she had the day off and she was traveling. Hoda called her and the first thing Savannah said was ‘I’m proud of you…you’re amazing.” ‘…It does not matter where we sit, we will always be by one another’s side.’

In January 2025, Hoda will officially exit the show.

According to Daily Mail, after Hoda’s exit, sources said that the producers of the show were trying to keep Savannah on so as not to “overhaul everything” during this transition.

Savannah’s contract is coming up for renewal in 2025. She signed an undisclosed number in 2020, an apparent wage increase from her original agreement of $8M per year.
