A 54-year-old man named Dereck Ardis was recently found guilty on numerous offenses, including unlawful firearm possession and domestic violence, in a decision that has sent shockwaves around San Francisco. Prosecutor Brooke Jenkins of San Francisco confirmed the verdict of the jury, saying that Ardis was found guilty of multiple charges.
As stated by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, among these offenses were felon possession of a firearm and domestic violence battery.
According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins expressed gratitude to the jurors for their deliberations during the trial. “My office takes these cases seriously and will always fight for justice in the courtroom to make sure that there is accountability.”
Serious penalties are imposed upon convictions for offenses such as forbidden persons possessing loaded firearms, prohibited persons possessing concealed weapons in vehicles, and felons convicted of trespass and a violent crime simultaneously having firearms in their possession. All things considered, these accusations serve as a sobering reminder of the repercussions that await individuals who disobey the rules of society.
The incident that gave rise to the lawsuit occurred when Ardis’ ex-girlfriend—the victim—reported a break-in and the theft of two loaded weapons. Assistant District Attorney Alice Wong and others oversaw a more extensive investigation and prosecution as a result of this.

Trial testimony revealed disturbing details about the accused’s history, including burglary and undisclosed instances of domestic violence. A loaded gun was found hidden under the driver’s seat of a car linked to Ardis; the San Francisco Police Department’s Crime Gun Investigations Center was essential in building this case.
I want to applaud the jury for their consideration and meticulous review of the evidence in arriving at their verdict,” Assistant District Attorney Alice Wong stated, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, praising the panel.
Even without the survivor’s testimony, Wong’s team’s trauma-informed strategy against the prosecution was effective. This method highlights how our knowledge of the legal system’s interactions with victims of domestic violence is growing. Ardis is still being detained in detention pending his September 19th sentencing.
