A budget in excess $54.3 million has been approved by the Livingston County Road Commission for 2023 road and bridge projects.
Passed during a Dec. 28 budget hearing, the spending plan includes more than $25.9 million in state road funds and more than $7 million in federal aid, more than double the $3.4 million budgeted in 2022.
However, more than $4.6 million of those funds are dedicated to a $6.5 million project that will reconstruct Old US-23 in Hartland Township from the intersection M-59 to the Brighton Township line south of Bergin Road. The project, which Hartland Township is pitching in $1.3 million towards, will also add a new center turn lane.
Other projects planned for 2023 include rehabilitation of Chilson Road between Crooked Lake and Beck roads in Genoa Township and Fowlerville Road north from Van Buren Road to the Fowlerville village limits in Handy Township.
Another $3 million is set aside for pavement work on local roads, with local townships matching that with an additional $3 million.
