Portage & Base Line lake levels to rise on Monday

The lake levels on Portage and Base Line Lakes will be raised beginning on Monday, March 28.

The Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office says the lakes, which are located in both Dexter and Webster Townships, will reach their legally established summer level of 851.54 feet above sea level by April 11, although that could change depending on the weather.

The Lake Level District that includes Portage and Base Line lakes is located within both Washtenaw and Livingston County.

The lake level is adjusted each year to enhance the recreational opportunities for residents, with it being lowered in the winter to reduce ice damage and erosion on the lakeshore.
