Pendleton lost control of the vehicle, sending it careening off the road, into a dumpster, and finally into the path of a 68-year-old woman named Sharon Griffin, who was strolling through an apartment complex. At the site, paramedics declared Griffin dead.
Following the collision, police saw Pendleton running away on foot. Pendleton stayed at large until his recent capture; the Harris County District Attorney’s Office had charged him with murder after the incident.
