Just several days after Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) campaigned for Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin, former Vice President Mike Pence will campaign for her challenger, Republican state Sen. Tom Barrett.
According to an advisory from Barrett’s campaign, Pence will campaign with him in Barrett’s hometown of Charlotte.
Barrett is seeking to oust the two-term Slotkin from Congress as they compete for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, which is centered on Lansing, and includes all of Livingston County.
On Tuesday, Cheney appeared with Slotkin to a standing room only crowd at E. Lansing High School in which they both emphasized prioritizing American democracy over party loyalty.
Cheney lost her re-election effort in the August primary to Harriet Hageman, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Hageman also has endorsed Barrett.
Trump has castigated Cheney for her vote to impeach him after he encouraged the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Many of those rioters chanted “hang Mike Pence” for his refusal to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election.
