Police and school officials say a student at Pathfinder was hit by a car just before 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, after leaving school for the day.
Pathfinder is an elementary school at Pinckney Community Schools for kids in grades 6 through 8. The child, a girl 11 years old, was not named.
In the release, school director Lori Sandula said, “We are writing to let you know about something that happened today during Pathfinder dismissal.”
“One of our students was hurt in a parking lot accident near McGregor Road.” We want you to know what’s going on because your child’s safety is our top concern.
Sandula said that the student was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
You can find the school in Hamburg Township on the west side of McGregor Road.
Deputy Jeremy Gwinn of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office told The Daily that the student was on her way home when she crossed McGregor Road. She was hit by a 2020 Buick Encore being driven northbound by a 50-year-old woman from Pinckney.
Gwinn says that people who saw the student cross said it happened in a place where there isn’t a crosswalk, close to the back door to the school. It doesn’t look like speed or drinking played a role in the crash.
The child in sixth grade was taken to Ann Arbor’s University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
“First and foremost, we want to assure you that our student is receiving appropriate medical care, and their well-being is our primary concern,” said Sandula. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
In the coming days, staff will be ready to help with emotional needs.
