An Oceola Township man has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of his grandparents.
23-year-old Chance Raymond Hallam was handed a mandatory sentence of life in prison on Thursday by Livingston County Circuit Court Judge Michael Hatty.
Hallam was found guilty in December on two counts of open murder in the deaths of 75-year-old Dale Dormanen and his wife, 79-year-old Joan Dormanen. Troopers with the Michigan State Police found their bodies November 19, 2021 inside of their home at 1263 Maple Leaf Lane.
Both reportedly suffered extensive stab wounds. Hallam, who made the call to 911 that summoned the troopers, was still on the phone when they arrived and was then taken into custody.
In court Thursday, Hallam apologized for the murders but claimed he had been sexually abused by his grandparents.
