A rapidly spreading wildfire in southern California has prompted evacuation orders and advisories for about 4,200 people, endangering 4,100 structures.
At 15,232 acres, 3% of the Siskiyou County Shelly Fire has been contained. With the Lake Fire in second place, it is currently the biggest active fire in the state. Santa Barbara County fire has burned 38,430 acres and is 34% controlled.
Beginning on July 3, the Shelly Fire spread to the Marble Mountain Wilderness, close to Shelly Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail.
“The fire has grown and now threatens communities, private timberlands, cultural resources, and wilderness areas due to hot, dry weather and difficult access,” a CalFire update reads.

In addition to 20 helicopters, 58 dozers, 56 water tenders, and almost 3,000 men are combating the fire.
Other notable California fires are the Hurricane Fire in San Luis Obispo County (12,703 acres and 75% contained), the Rancho Fire in Kern County (9,950 acres and 50% contained), and the Basin Fire in Fresno County (14,023 acres and 95% contained).
