A grisly discovery is under investigation at a North Florida park after deputies found a lot of human blood — but no source.
The discovery was made Monday, Nov. 11, at Hidden Trails Park in Daytona North, about an 80-mile drive south from Jacksonville.
“Deputies conducted a security check at the park … where they found a significant amount of blood inside the public restroom. Upon further investigation, deputies confirmed it was human blood,” the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a Nov. 14 news release.
“No individuals were found in the area at the time, and there were no immediate leads regarding the source of the blood.”
Search dogs combed the surrounding area, which is largely rural, but found no “evidence or persons of interest,” officials said.
The blood was fresh enough that investigators believe it is linked to something that happened Nov. 11. The sheriff’s office is asking the public to report “anything unusual” seen that day around the park, which is surrounded by woodland.
“Any information from the public could be critical to helping us determine what occurred,” Flagler County Sheriff Sheriff Rick Staly said in the release.

“Whatever happened could be just an accident or it could be something more serious. If you know anything or saw something suspicious at Hidden Trails Park in the Mondex on November 11th, please contact us immediately. You might just have the information we need to determine the source of the blood.”
Hidden Trails Park covers 20 acres and includes “a fitness trail, playground, basketball court, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, and a volleyball court,” according to Visitflagler.com.
