Michigan State Police at the Brighton Post are warning the public about an ongoing phone scam.
According to a tweet from the MSP First District account, residents in the area of the Brighton Post have been receiving calls from people attempting to get personal information. The suspects are using the Brighton Post’s telephone number, which is 810-227-1051, and asking for personal information or money.
MSP assured the public that it is a scam and say that while troopers might call for an investigation or to request an interview, they would never ask for money over the phone.
They also provided a list of tips for residents, including never giving out your credit card information over the phone, nor making payment in the form of Gift Cards or Cryptocurrency.
