Nearly 200 jobs have been lost by hardworking Americans as a result of a large Ohio company’s decision to relocate jobs overseas.
One hundred seventy-five employees will be leaving Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for a new Costa Rica in Akron, the business announced on Friday.
Although Goodyear did tell the Beacon Journal that layoffs would occur at its Akron headquarters, the company would not say how many people would be impacted.
Nevertheless, according to a representative from Goodyear, the layoffs would not impact any union personnel.
A new Goodyear location in Costa Rica will house 175 roles supporting America’s business and corporate functions. The relocation is set to take place in early 2025, as part of our Goodyear Forward transformation plan, the firm announced in a statement.
According to the spokesperson, out of Goodyear’s total of around 71,000 employees, over 2,500 are based in Akron, with the majority working out of the company’s headquarters.
Earlier this year, in May, Goodyear President Mark Stewart said that 135 jobs had been eliminated across the Americas.

The Beacon Journal published an article in March detailing how Goodyear intends to lay off approximately 550 workers at its Malaysian plant when it ceases operations on June 30.
In addition, Goodyear’s intentions to lay off some 1,200 workers in its EMEA division were officially announced in September.
