Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after being critically injured in Howell crash

Just a day after a fatal motorcycle crash in Genoa Township, Howell Police are investigating a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon that required the operator to be airlifted to the hospital.

The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. Tuesday on N. Michigan Ave. near Victoria Park Dr. and had both Howell Police officers and Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies responding.

An initial investigation indicated that a 27-year-old Howell-area man was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of N. Michigan Ave., reportedly trying to navigate through backed-up traffic, when he hit a vehicle entering the southbound lane which was operated by a 28-year-old Howell man.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was airlifted by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Hospital. He was last listed in critical condition.

The crash scene was closed for approximately four hours while the investigation and clean up of the scene took place.

The Howell Police Department is handling the investigation with assistance from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit.

The Howell Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Howell Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, and U of M Survival Flight.

Tuesday’s incident followed Monday afternoon’s fatal motorcycle crash on E. Grand River and Wildwood Drive in Genoa Township.

Killed in that crash was 38-year-old James Hooks of Milford, an Executive Sous Chef at the Log Cabin Restaurant. A GoFundMe account has been created to assist Hook’s family.
