Michigan State Police say a man who was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a car on I-96 in Howell Township, intentionally jumped from the freeway overpass.
Troopers responded to a report of a car vs. pedestrian crash on westbound I-96 at M-59 at approximately 6:30 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the 32-year-old Howell man jumped from the M-59 overpass and was then struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. MSP did not release his name.
The ensuing investigation shut down westbound I-96 for about two hours as traffic was re-routed off the freeway to M-59 , causing lengthy back-ups until the freeway was re-opened around 8:40 a.m.
