Monday will see Memorial Day parades in a variety of communities across Livingston County.
Parades and remembrances are planned in Hartland, Howell, Brighton, Pinckney & Fowlerville.
In Hartland, the largest of the county’s Memorial Day events, the day will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the Hartland Band Boosters Pancake Breakfast at Village Elementary, followed by the annual 5K Run/3K Walk that starts at 8 a.m. at the Hartland High School Field House. The parade will then take place at Noon starting at Ore Creek Middle School and ending at Village Elementary School.
Howell’s parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Howell Carnegie District Library and heads east on Grand River Ave. to Barnard St. and then north to the Lakeview Cemetery. A memorial ceremony will begin right after the parade. Following the ceremony, a luncheon will be held at the American Legion Devereaux Post 141.
In Brighton, American Legion Post 235 will start the parade at 10 a.m. at Brighton High School. Due to the Main Street Streetscape Project, the parade will continue on S. Seventh Street, to Main Street, to N. First Street, and then over the Tridge to the Veterans Memorial.
Pinckney’s Memorial Day parade will start at 1 p.m. at the Lakeland Trail Depot Lot at Pearl & Hamburg Streets.
And then finally, officials in Fowlerville have changed things up a bit this year. The VFW Post 6464 Executive Committee voted unanimously to eliminate the 1.5-mile parade, and instead, all activities will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. The Veterans, Auxiliary and Band will form at the South placing a wreath at the War Monument there. They will then March with the Colors to the Cannon Memorial.
A LETS Bus will be available for transportation from downtown to the Greenwood Cemetery and back from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Pick up and drop off in front of Chase Bank/Save-On Store.
