Hackers utilized McDonald’s Instagram to promote a cryptocurrency on its network, and now they’re making a cool $700k in Solana.

According to the hackers, they broke into McDonald’s social media accounts and promoted a phony meme coin called “GRIMACE” on the Solana network, a decentralized cryptocurrency platform with superior performance.

It just took 30 minutes for the phony token’s value to skyrocket from $0 to $25 million before it crashed entirely, as reported by Cryptopolitan.

Traditional “rug pulls” involve “pump and dump” transactions involving securities.

The description of McDonald’s Instagram page has been changed to: “Sorry mah n-ga you have just been rug pulled by India_X_Kr3w thank you for the $700,000 in Solana,” according to a screenshot that has went viral online.

A flag of India emoji was included in the caption, which was viewable by McDonald’s over 5.1 million Instagram followers.

Within a statement, McDonald‘s acknowledged that they were “aware of an isolated incident that impacted our social media accounts earlier today.”

“We have addressed the matter on those accounts and would like to apologize to our fans for any offensive language that was posted during that time,” McDonald’s stated thereafter.
