Kansas City Streets Turn Deadly Man Killed in Shooting, Search Underway for Attacker

A police spokeswoman reported that a man was killed after gunfire broke out after an argument in the North Town Fork Creek neighborhood of Kansas City on Thursday morning. A Ford F-150 pickup truck belonging to the victim was reportedly stolen during the altercation, and investigators are currently scouring the area for the vehicle.

Officer Alayna Gonzalez of the Kansas City Police Department stated that officers arrived at the scene of the shooting in the 5400 block of College Avenue shortly before 10:30 a.m.

When the police arrived, they discovered a lifeless body lying in the roadway, clearly shot. According to Gonzalez, paramedics arrived at the scene of the gunshot and pronounced the man dead.

Investigators from the crime scene were busy Thursday afternoon at the 5400 block of College Avenue, where a fatal shooting had taken place.

According to the first investigation, the victim and another man were involved in a dispute. Gonzalez added that shots were fired as the argument intensified, hitting the victim. According to her, the altercation took place outside of a residence between two people who knew each other.

The victim’s burgundy Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen after the shooting, according to a family member who was at the site of the crime. Gonzalez verified the victim’s identity as the registered owner of the truck.

On Thursday afternoon, authorities shared a photo of a four-door truck with the license plate number 8FHB06 and described it as burgundy with tan undermarkings.

Thursday afternoon, detectives and investigators were gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses at the crime scene. Even relatives showed up, albeit they were in the dark about what had transpired.

This murder brings the total number of homicides in Kansas City this year to 119, including deadly police shootings, as reported by The Star. There were 148 murders by this point in 2023, the bloodiest year in Kansas City. There were 185 killings in the city last year.
